I have some of the most creative and funny Twitter followers out there. For this reason, awhile ago when I needed some good hangover cures, I turned to them and asked this:
Looking for good hangover tips for my blog, got any?
Just as I’d hoped, Twitter pulled through and supplied me with the good, the bad and the just plain weird.
The good hangover tips included the usual ones your Aunt Marge would give you while hemming her long floral skirt:
Get plenty of sleep
Take your Advil before bed
Stay hydrated
Eat a nice big meal before your night out
Juice an apple, cucumber, lemon, ginger, garlic, kale, spinach and beets and drink it down
Some of the bad answers were more reflective of what your unshaven Uncle Tony would tell you while shotgunning a Budweiser:
Wake up and immediately eat a Big Mac while pounding a fountain Coke
Hair of the dog: Make a Bloody Mary and keep going
Hell, never stop drinking and stick with vodka – good vodka.
Just when I thought it couldn’t get any scarier, the weird ones started coming in:
Drink lots of pickle juice
A baked potato before bed
Cold meatballs dipped in yogurt
And my personal favorite that was (surprisingly) written by more than one person:
Rub lemon in your armpit
Just when I think I’ve heard them all, you guys never cease to amaze me. What’s YOUR go-to hangover remedy?
In Scotland we have a soft fizzy drink called Irn Bru, pronounced “Iron Brew” works every time, and as Scots we would know how to cure the dreaded hangover lol x
I’m not too sure about the lemon on your armpit thing, but here in The great state of Texas nothing works better than Whataburger at 3 am. 😉
Hey just gatorade
Pickle juice does work and it takes pretty good in that Bloody Mary too!! But my go to thing lately has been Pedialyte. Yes, the stuff you buy in the baby section at the store. They actually make it in the “to go” packets that you dump in your water bottle. Getting your body re-hydrated is the key and if it’s good enough to hydrate a puking baby, it’s good enough for my hungover self. Plus, they’re easy to pack when traveling (especially when going to New Orleans because you know you’ll drink too much on Bourbon Street!!).
I have not tried this, but have heard it works great… Pedialyte pops. Those frozen pops we give kids when they are sick and need to stay hydrated. Apparently, this is a staple in college dorms.
Spicy Bloody Mary always helps me with my hangover. Also I like strawberry yogart with chopped up bananas and strawberries.
I found this stuff at GNC called Never Hungover and it totally works! I turned 40 last month and we went to Mexico for an early celebration in July and I tried these drinks for the first time. They worked…never had a hangover the entire time. I keep them on hand now and love them!
Take two B12 before you start drinking, then pop an Excedrin Migraine before you go to sleep with a big glass of water. Works great!
I agree with the Advil. 2 gummies vitamins help too. I always enjoy a greasy cheeseburger and a Gatorade the next day myself
For some reason a Coke from McDonalds always helps me !
Don’t have more than three drinks..
Iced Hazlenut coffee from Dunkin, and alka seltzer cold and cough,,,,
Trust me it works. You need to drink water and if you have it in the house
Fresh squeezed juice with some glutathione powder (1/4 teaspoon)
will make you feel much better an hour later…do not forget to get outside
and walk…staying inside on the couch is the worst thing to do…
It depends on the severity of the hangover. If it’s super duper bad like you feel like you might die, make an appointment (stat!) at the nearest IV clinic, which are located in most major cities – check out North Chicago. Works wonders! Less severe would be lots of lemon water (preferably warm in the am), vitamin B 12, take ibuprofen if needed and a nap. There’s always another “natural” alternative…medical marijuana. 🙂
